A Financial System Built for Physicians in Canada
A Different Starting Point
Most financial firms are built to offer services. Imperial Lifestyle Management was built to solve a structural problem.
In 2010, Andrew Dennis and Alex Powell started what would become Imperial around a dining room table in Burlington, Ontario. There was no formal blueprint and no institutional backing. What they did have was clarity. High-performing professionals, especially physicians, were navigating increasingly complex financial lives without a system designed to support them. Advice existed, but coordination did not.
Recognizing the Gap
As the firm began to grow, a clear pattern emerged. Physicians were operating in a completely different financial reality. Incorporation decisions, evolving income structures, regulatory complexity, and long career timelines created challenges that traditional financial models were not built to handle.
Most were left managing multiple advisors who were not aligned. This created inefficiencies and limited long-term outcomes.
Building With Intention
In 2012, Imperial Lifestyle Management was formally established with a singular focus. The goal was to build a financial system specifically for physicians. Not adapted from existing models, but designed from the ground up.
This required a deliberate approach. The client base was narrowed while capabilities expanded. Strategic partnerships in accounting and finance were developed. Investment management relationships were established to support long-term growth. The internal team grew to support advisory, bookkeeping, and planning in a coordinated way.
From Firm to System
Over time, the firm evolved from a traditional advisory practice into something more structured. Each layer of growth was intentional. New offices were opened, the team expanded, and specialization deepened.
By 2020, that vision became fully realized. Imperial moved into its own building in Oakville, bringing together professionals across real estate, lending, legal, accounting, and insurance within one environment. This was not a referral network. It was a coordinated system where every part of a client’s financial life could be aligned and managed effectively.
Refinement, Not Expansion
Growth continued with a focus on precision. In 2021, MedTax.ca was launched as a dedicated accounting arm for physicians. This was not a shift in direction, but a refinement of the existing model. It allowed for deeper integration and more specialized support within a system that had already been built around the needs of medical professionals.
What Exists Today
Today, Imperial Lifestyle Management operates as a fully integrated financial system for physicians across Canada. It is designed to simplify complexity, create clarity, and support long-term wealth without requiring clients to manage multiple moving parts on their own.
Why It Matters
Physicians spend their careers mastering their field. They should not have to master finance at the same time. Imperial was created to remove that burden so that every financial decision is coordinated, intentional, and aligned with long-term goals.
Looking Ahead
The financial industry remains largely fragmented. Many professionals are still working within disconnected systems that were not built for the level of complexity they face today. Imperial was built differently from the start, and it continues to evolve with that same level of intention.
